Post and core

Severely decayed or broken teeth, or teeth that have had a root canal, may need additional support before they can be restored. Without reinforcement, the tooth cannot hold the force of eating and chewing. One option to add the much needed support to the tooth is called post and core.

During this procedure, a post is drilled into the root of the tooth. Then a core is placed on top of the post, giving it sustainability. These two pieces work together to give your tooth the additional support it needs to withstand daily activities like chewing.

To help prevent needing this procedure in the future, make sure you take proper care of your teeth and visit Frankel Dentistry twice a year.
