March is National Kidney Month

Did you know your kidney health is related to your oral health? March is National Kidney Month, so it’s important to take time to understand how they are related.

Not only can gum disease affect your mouth, but it can affect your kidneys if you have kidney disease. A recent study has reported that those with kidney disease or on dialysis are more likely to have gum disease and oral health problems. Patient’s with kidney disease may also experience dry mouth, inflammation, bad breath and tooth loss.

How to Prevent Gum Disease:

1) Come in for your hygiene cleanings routinely

2) Floss! Flossing keeps gums healthy and unwanted bacteria away

3) Add a mouthwash to your routine help keep plaque away

Eating healthy, exercise and avoiding alcohol and tobacco are all lifestyle changes that will not only help with kidney disease prevention but are important for superior oral health.
