July is National Ice Cream Month.

Eating ice cream or consuming cold beverages shouldn’t hurt. Summer is a time where you want to stay cool – whether that be with your favorite ice cream, frozen yogurt or ice cold water!

If you experience pain when consuming cold (or hot) foods, you may suffer from tooth sensitivity.

You don’t need to suffer and make sacrifices as this can be treatable.

Tooth sensitivity can be caused by gum disease, exposed tooth root, cavity or tooth decay, sensitive or worn tooth enamel or a possible fractured tooth. If you grind your teeth, be sure to wear a guard to keep your teeth protected.

It’s best to be seen by your dentist to discuss your options. There are different types of treatment available to help alleviate this pain including:

  • desensitizing toothpaste
  • root canal
  • crown, inlay or bonding

Until you can be seen by a dentist, avoid cold food and acidic foods.
